Inside NeuGroup Peer Research: Turning Member Input Into Insight
My five-plus years at NeuGroup have taught me that insight distilled from member surveys and research is among the foundational elements of the value proposition that participation in the NeuGroup Network offers treasurers and their teams.
  • In the latest episode of our new What’s Neu video series, I sit down with head of research Joseph Bertran to discuss his approach to molding data from the surveys into NeuGroup Peer Research reports that help finance leaders see where they stand relative to peers and where to set their sights.
  • “The key is the ‘peer’ in peer research,” Joseph says in the episode. “My goal is to take the information, analyze it, package it and give it back to members so they can benchmark best practices and see from an aggregate level what other treasurers are doing.”
Joseph explains that most surveys begin with topics raised directly by members—for example, counterparty credit risk and digital assets. Members also shape the process itself, offering feedback on which questions should be included and how they are phrased. The result is a series of reports that distill the experience of global finance leaders into accessible benchmarking data. Counting headcount. We also discuss findings from Joseph’s current project, an ongoing survey of treasury team headcount that shows how large companies focus on optimizing resources as smaller teams continue to grow. Joseph digs into the value of giving members a visual snapshot of where they stand relative to peers, using charts that compare treasury staffing levels to company revenue as a proxy for efficiency.
  • “It lets members see where they are relative to the group,” he says, adding that the analysis also explores what drives differences in headcount beyond revenue—including technology adoption, the use of AI and other operational choices that influence how companies manage team size.
Music men. The episode closes on a lighter note, as Joseph and I swap music recommendations—including his recent enthusiasm for the artist who will host next year’s Super Bowl halftime show, and my own shout-out to the first rappers to perform in Vatican City.
  • Watch the full episode below to see how NeuGroup Peer Research turns member input into insight—and why benchmarking data can be a valuable tool for future-forward finance professionals.
